Sub-surface Geotechnical Investigation & Borehole SPT: Inaruwa
Inaruwa, the administrative headquarters of Sunsari District, sits on alluvial Terai deposits characterized by high water tables and intercalated soft clay/silt strata prone to liquefaction and excessive settlement. Before constructing a 5-story commercial and administrative complex, a comprehensive geotechnical site investigation was mandated.
USEC deployed rotary mud-drilling and percussion equipment to advance 3 boreholes down to 20 meters depth. Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) were conducted at 1.5m intervals according to IS 2131 standards, collecting both disturbed and undisturbed thin-walled tube soil samples for comprehensive laboratory testing.

SPT N-values logged continuously to 20m depth; corrected for overburden pressure and dilatancy (IS 2131).
Atterberg Limits & Sieve Analysis
Liquid limit, plastic limit, and gradation curves mapped subsoil profiles into cohesive silty-clay and fine sand strata.
Direct Shear & Triaxial Testing
Determined effective cohesion (c') and internal angle of friction (phi) for shear failure analysis.
Foundation Recommendations
Recommended mat/raft foundation with minimum 2.5m embedment depth and Net Allowable Bearing Capacity of 125 kN/m² conforming to NBC 105:2025.
